Policy Toward North Korea
In June 2001, President Bush signaled a change in his administration's policy toward North Korea by announcing that the United States will resume bilateral talks with North Korea.
As we discussed above, the new Bush administration in the United States toughened its policy toward North Korea, citing that it perceived the latter as a threat to world piece.
Since June of 2001, however, the U.S. government has softened its policy toward North Korea by announcing its willingness to engage North Korea without preconditions.
We believe that this change in U.S. policy toward North Korea was caused by the change in the U.S.'s own type as our model indicates and as some media coverage reported, rather than the change in the Bush administration's perception of the North Korean regime.
